ALP Overview
Discover what you can learn with the Agricultural Leadership Program from communication and emotional intelligence to conflict resolution and leadership skills that inspire confidence and purpose.
A Journey of Learning, Practice, and Growth
The Agricultural Leadership Program (ALP) is more than a training course. It’s a chance to grow as a leader. Designed especially for farm and packinghouse supervisors and managers, ALP gives you the tools and knowledge to put leadership into practice every day, helping you build confidence, communicate better, and improve how you lead your team.

Over three months, you’ll take part in a journey that combines in-person learning with real-life application.
You’ll meet once a week for six weeks, completing 40 hours of interactive classes filled with real agricultural examples and practical activities.
After that, you’ll choose one leadership skill to focus on and apply it in your own workplace through a six-week project.
In week twelve, you’ll return to share what you learned, celebrate your growth, and graduate with your ALP Certificate, awarded by the Washington State Tree Fruit Association (WSTFA) and the Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA).

Leadership Built for Agriculture
What Makes ALP Different
ALP isn’t like any other leadership course; it was built for the realities of agriculture and designed especially for frontline supervisors. Every session focuses on practical, simple tools you can use right away, from how to communicate clearly and listen with empathy, to resolving conflicts and building trust with your team.
While the program was created with supervisors in mind, everyone involved in agriculture can benefit, from farm owners and managers to HR professionals and workers. That’s because ALP is guided by the idea that Everyone Leads. You don’t need a title to make a difference, leadership starts with how you show up, how you treat people, and how you help your team grow.
In ALP, you’ll learn in a fully bilingual (English – Spanish) environment where every participant feels at home. Through cultural integration, we create a safe and welcoming space where everyone’s voice matters. All our trainers are bicultural, bringing a unique richness to the classroom; they understand your world, your challenges, and your culture. With real case scenarios, group discussions, and interactive activities, you’ll connect each lesson to your daily work and begin leading with purpose from day one.

What You’ll Learn

Our trainers guide meaningful conversations that help you grow as a leader, building confidence, empathy, and purpose from day one.
Here’s what you’ll experience in your journey through ALP:
Leadership Foundations: A New Way of Leading

Leadership Foundations: A New Way of Leading
In this class, you will learn that leadership is not about power or authority, it is about action. We will explore a new way of thinking about leadership, where every action matters and everyone can make a difference.
You will also discover the strength that comes from being open and honest. When you have the courage to listen, admit mistakes, and show who you truly are, you build trust and connection with your team. By the end, you will walk away with a clear idea of what kind of leader you want to be and the steps you can take to grow into that person.
Communication & Empathic Listening: Speaking with Courage and Care

Communication & Empathic Listening: Speaking with Courage and Care
Communication is one of the most important skills for any leader. In this class, you will learn five simple steps to communicate clearly, listen with empathy, and understand others better. You will discover how your words, tone, and body language can change the way people hear your message. We will also talk about courageous conversations, those hard but important talks that help solve problems, clarify expectations, and build trust. Through real examples, pair work, and fun activities, you will practice how to handle these moments with calm and respect.
After this ALP Day, you will feel more confident speaking up, giving feedback, and building strong relationships based on honesty and understanding.
Emotional Intelligence: Leading with Heart

Emotional Intelligence: Leading with Heart
Emotions are part of who we are and how we act. Learning to understand them helps you lead with confidence and care. In this session, you will explore how to notice and control your own emotions, recognize what others are feeling, and respond with patience and empathy.
You will learn how to stay calm under pressure, manage frustration, and create a positive work environment where people feel respected and supported. With new awareness and simple tools, you will see how emotional intelligence can make you a better communicator, problem solver, and teammate.
By building emotional intelligence, you will lead not just with your head but also with your heart.
Behavioral Change: Creating Habits That Last

Behavioral Change: Creating Habits That Last
Change is possible, and it starts with small steps. In this session, based on the book Atomic Habits by James Clear, you will learn four simple rules that make it easier to create habits that last.
You will choose one area of leadership you want to improve, such as listening better, managing stress, or control your emotions, and create a plan that fits your life. We will talk about how small daily actions can lead to big results over time.
By the end, you will understand how to make positive changes stick, and you will leave with a plan you are excited to start right away.
Conflict Resolution: Practicing Win-Win

Conflict Resolution: Practicing Win-Win
Conflict happens naturally when people interact with each other, but it does not have to divide us. In this class, you will learn to see conflict in a new way, not as something bad but as an opportunity to grow and understand others.
We will explore win-win strategies that focus on finding solutions instead of blame. You will practice with real examples of conflicts that happen in agriculture, and through role play, you will learn to stay calm, ask questions, and guide conversations toward understanding.
Core Values: Leading from What Matters Most

Core Values: Leading from What Matters Most
Your core values are the beliefs that guide your choices, actions, and the way you treat people. In this class, one of our students’ favorites, you will take time to discover what matters most to you.
Many participants describe this as a light turning on inside. Once you identify your values, you will feel clearer about your purpose and more motivated to lead with honesty and heart. You will also learn that not everyone shares the same values, and that is okay. By learning to respect other people’s values and perspectives, you will build stronger relationships based on understanding and trust.
Stress Management & Mental Health: Finding Balance and Support

Stress Management & Mental Health: Finding Balance and Support
Working in agriculture comes with unique challenges such as long hours, uncertainty, and high expectations. In this session, we will talk about how stress looks different in agriculture and in the Hispanic community, and why it is important to take care of your mind and body.
You will learn to notice signs of stress, understand what triggers it, and see that you are not alone in these feelings. Together, we will share stories, support one another, and practice simple techniques like breathing exercises and grounding activities that you can use anytime, anywhere.
Coaching & Delegation: Helping Others Grow

Coaching & Delegation: Helping Others Grow
Leadership is about helping others succeed. In this session, you will learn how to delegate with purpose and coach through questions that help people think for themselves and build confidence. You will see how every team member is different and how each situation may need a unique approach. We will practice how to adjust your style, when to guide closely, and when to step back and trust.
By learning how to coach with patience and curiosity, you will build a stronger team that feels supported, valued, and ready to grow alongside you.
Applied Leadership Project: Learning by Doing

Applied Leadership Project: Learning by Doing
The most powerful learning happens when you put it into action. After your six classes, it is time to practice what you learnt. You will choose one leadership skill that is most meaningful to you and apply it at work and personal life over the next six weeks.
We will help you plan your project, so you know what to focus on, what questions to reflect on, and how to track your progress. You will also be part of a group with your classmates, where you can share updates, ask questions, and support each other along the way.
In week twelve, you will return to present your project, sharing what you practiced, what you learned, and how you have grown. It is a powerful moment of celebration and reflection, showing the real impact of your leadership journey.
